First overbridge constructed on A6 Dualling Scheme

After years of planning, work on Northern Ireland's current largest road scheme, A6 Randalstown to Castledawson Dualling Scheme, is now well underway as the new route begins to take shape and new bridge structures appear.
Whilst cars continue to travel on the current road A6 route, a few hundred yards away the team of the Graham Farrans Joint Venture (GFJV) have begun to install the scheme’s first overbridge. Early last week precast bridge beams were installed at the Derrygowan Road, creating the project’s first structure.
The GFJV team spent months in preparation for the day of the lift, with the installation of north and south abutments, support bases, and 3 columns.
The team worked tirelessly through the snow and ice to ensure the bridge was installed on schedule. A 500T crane platform was used to lift a total of 10 precast beams into place during a the 2 day planned closure.
